Foróige Volunteer Agreement

Foróige volunteers do important work. If you become one, here is what you can expect from us and what we will expect from you.

The purpose of Foróige is to enable young people to involve themselves, consciously and actively, in their own development and in the development of society. Foróige sees each person as valuable, unique and creative, capable of developing their own potential and improving the world in which they live. This purpose and beliefs guide how volunteers act in Foróige.
I understand that
  • Foróige will treat me with respect, value my contribution and listen to my ideas and concerns, including having a complaints procedure I can use.
  • I cannot begin my role until Foróige informs me that Garda vetting is complete.
  • Foróige will support me in my agreed role in a range of ways including adequate training, information and access to other volunteers/staff.
  • Foróige may offer me opportunities to progress in the organisation.
  • Foróige will inform me of a staff person whom I can contact for support in my role.
  • I can cease volunteering with Foróige at any time of my choosing, and Foróige can end my volunteering at any time of its choosing.
  • I give my time and service freely at the direction of Foróige and I am not entitled to, and will not be, paid for this.
  • I must complete Starting Out in Foróige and Child Protection Training within the notified time frame.
  • If I resign I have to reapply if I wish to return. If I cease my agreed role for more than a year I will have to reapply even if I did not resign.
In your role with Foróige you will
  • Implement Foróige’s child safeguarding and protection policy, which sees the Safeguarding and welfare of young people as of paramount importance. You will take all reasonable care to ensure young people are protected from abuse of any kind.
  • Act in the best interests of young people at all times.
  • Implement Foróige’s purpose and philosophy in your volunteering role
  • Carry out your role as described in the role description or task list given to you.
  • Abide by Foróige’s Code of Good Practice for working with Young People and Foróige’s General Code of Conduct for Volunteers which can be found on https://www.foroige.ie/our-work/clubs/.
  • Follow other policies including Insurance, Data Protection, Social Media, Tobacco Drugs and Alcohol and our Volunteering Information Document.
  • Demonstrate behaviours which show respect for young people, other volunteers, parents, staff and the community.
  • Attend at the times you have agreed to or let others know in advance if you can’t.
  • Let us know if you have to take a break or cease volunteering.
